Shared direction and culture

The provider implemented a system nationally which provided the opportunity for employees to be part of making changes to improve the business which benefited the Sheffield service. Staff understood and were committed to the provider’s values.

Systems were implemented by the provider to ensure central management support was available to work through issues in local branches. This was implemented to support the set up and development of the Be Caring Sheffield service .

Capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders

The provider had implemented national organisational procedures to involve staff in identifying a variety of benefits to the staff. This was developed to include staff at all locations. Staff were valued by the provider and their achievements to deliver a good service were acknowledged.The provider employed experienced leaders to support the development of this service.

The provider implemented effective communication procedures with staff. This ensured staff were informed in a timely way of best practice updates.

Freedom to speak up

The provider had developed systems in support of speaking up. All senior management staff were trained to support staff to understand the importance of raising concerns to drive improvement. The provider structure gave opportunities for staff to be involved in making decisions to improve services, which included this location. Leaders were passionate about employee ownership model of the service.

The provider implemented policies to encourage staff to raise concerns to be investigated to identify and act on lessons learned.

Workforce equality, diversity and inclusion

Staff were valued and supported.The provider supported staff to understand different cultures. For example, the provider invited staff to attend practical cooking lessons to experience local cuisines.

The provider implemented procedures to ensure staff had the right support to thrive in the workplace.The provider implemented systems to gain feedback from staff to identify and review people's individual goals to develop independence. The provider implemented a model to support change in the organisation where every employee was encouraged to be part of the way the business operated and identified improvements to make staff work life easier.

Governance, management and sustainability

The provider was working with local authority to achieve consistently good compliance.

The provider implemented effective governance arrangements. Staff understood their own and others roles and were supported to uphold the values of the organisation.

Partnerships and communities

People were invited to attend events organised by the provider in the local community.The provider received a compliment from a member of the public in respect of a member of staff to acknowledge the quality of care demonstrated in an emergency situation. The member of staff was nominated for a local carers excellence award.

The provider worked to engage with and be present in the local community. The service arranged events as per provider model, for example, a seasonal event.

The provider was working with commissioners to achieve and maintain good compliance rates.The provider was working to develop links with relevant professionals and organisations within the local area.

The provider implemented a feedback and engagement policy. Plans were in place to implement this locally.

Learning, improvement and innovation

The provider completed outcomes forms. These evidenced where action had been taken in response to feedback from client surveys and feedback forms. These had included a referral for a specialist assessment for use of a bath and befriending scheme referrals.

The provider implemented a system to take action in response to the feedback they received from stakeholders to improve outcomes for people.
