Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.

Rickmansworth Orthodontics is in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire and provides NHS and private orthodontic care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.

At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 13 staff, of which there were 3 specialist orthodontists, 1 associate dentist with a special interest in orthodontics, 4 dental nurses, 2 orthodontic therapists, 2 receptionists and the practice manager. 12 December 2013

During a routine inspection

We inspected Rickmansworth Orthodontics on 12 December 2013. On arrival at the practice we were greeted by reception staff and noted that the provider had displayed posters around the practice informing people or our visit and encouraging people to speak to us. We saw that the main reception and waiting area was visibly clean and contained a vast amount of information about the treatments available, information about the practice, and other important information about medical history and hygiene. Products were also displayed and available to purchase from reception.

People who used the service told us that the nurses were 'very nice' and that the orthodontist 'explained the process'. We were told that they made them 'feel comfortable' and answered any questions that they had about the treatment.

Staff told us that they always 'tried to make people comfortable' and that 'patients were treated really well'. They told us that they had 'a really good team' and the running of the practice was 'a team effort'.

We found that the provider was compliant in the regulations we inspected. They had followed the required processes to insure people were protected from the risk of infection. Consent was always obtained from people who used the service. The provider had a robust complaints procedure in place. We reviewed the recruitment procedure and noted the provider had carried out the required checks before staff came to work at the service.
