Our current view of the service

Updated 26 March 2025

We carried out this announced, off-site inspection on 30 April 2025.

Where we carry out an offsite inspection, we undertake a detailed review of the practice risk assessments, policies, staff records and other relevant documents. We gather feedback from patients, staff and stakeholders (where relevant). We carry out a remote visual inspection of the premises and have discussions with staff.

We found the practice had met regulations.

Infection control procedures in place were effective.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance.

Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our inspection, could access care, support and treatment when required.

Smilepod – Jubilee Place is part of Smile Pod Limited a dental group provider. The practice is in Canary Wharf, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and provides private dental care and treatment mainly for adults and some children.

There was step-free access to the practice. Accessible parking and toilet facilities were available close to the practice, within the shopping mall.

The practice had 3 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 15 staff, of which there were 5 dentists, 1 dental hygienist, 2 dental therapists, 4 qualified dental nurses, 2 receptionists and the practice manager.

Staff feedback forms were shared with the team ahead of the inspection, allowing them an opportunity to confidentially share their views about the practice. We received 5 responses, which were considered as part of the inspection.

During the inspection we spoke to a range of staff, including 1 dentist, 1 dental therapist, 1 dental nurse, and the practice manager. We also spoke with the organisations clinical director, and one of the practice managers from another practice within the dental group.

The service provides cosmetic treatments, which are not in scope of CQC regulation and are not covered in our inspection.

People's experience of the service

Updated 26 March 2025

Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We did not receive any direct patient feedback. We reviewed feedback gathered by the practice and from online reviews of the service.

Patients commented that staff were friendly, polite and professional. They said that they were very satisfied with the treatment they received.

Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.

Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness.

Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed.

Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care.

Patients told us that when they were prescribed medicines, sufficient information was given.

The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
