Person-centred Care

Score: 3

The provider made sure people were at the centre of their care and treatment choices and they decided, in partnership with people, how to respond to any relevant changes in people’s needs. Care was person-centred and tailored to people’s individual needs. People’s rooms were personalised and reflected their own personal choices and preferences.

Care provision, Integration and continuity

Score: 3

The provider understood the diverse health and care needs of people and their local communities, so care was joined-up, flexible and supported choice and continuity. Care and support were joined up and there were good links with local community-based health and care services. A family member told us, “I have no concerns with the care at all and if I had I know how to voice them.”

Providing Information

Score: 3

The provider supplied appropriate, accurate and up-to-date information in formats that were tailored to individual needs. A regular newsletter was produced with pictures and clear information about the care home. The newsletter provided updates about people who were new to the care home and people's birthdays. The newsletter was a simple and straightforward approach to sharing information and ensuring good communication between people.

Listening to and involving people

Score: 3

The provider made it easy for people to share feedback and ideas, or raise complaints about their care, treatment and support. Staff involved people in decisions about their care and told them what had changed as a result. A family member told us, “I think that resident and family member meetings do take place but I have not attended any. I haven’t needed to raise any issues with the management as the service has always been good. I feel that they are open to anything needing changing.”

Equity in access

Score: 3

The provider made sure people could access the care, support and treatment they needed when they needed it. Reasonable adjustments had been made to ensure people were enabled to have access to all parts of the service. The care environment was spacious and people with mobility needs were able to access all areas of the care home safely.

Equity in experiences and outcomes

Score: 3

Staff and leaders actively listened to information about people who are most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes and tailored their care, support and treatment in response to this. People had equitable access to all activities and support irrespective of which floor they lived on. Some people chose to spend time on the ground floor to participate in activities and members of staff supported them to do this.

Planning for the future

Score: 3

People were supported to plan for important life changes, so they could have enough time to make informed decisions about their future, including at the end of their life. Where people had discussed their end-of-life care wishes, this was recorded in their care plans.
