Caring
Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.
At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment the rating has remained as good.
This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.
People were actively involved in decisions about their care and daily living. Staff supported individuals to understand their options and make informed choices. At mealtimes, a menu was available and discussed with each person. Where appropriate, staff presented plated options to help individuals choose according to their preferences.
Family members were invited to share a meal with their loved ones, and the home provided a meal for them to enjoy together. We observed one person who asked if they could eat in the lounge with their relative and this was arranged for them.
The home employed activities staff and people were given the choice of whether to participate. One family member said their relative “goes to bed and gets up when he wants”.
