Our view of the service
Date of assessment 4 November to 18 November. Allingham House Care Centre is a care home, providing personal and nursing care for up to 86 people. The home supports young and older people many of whom have a diagnosis of dementia and people with mental health needs. This inspection focused on the key questions safe and well-led.
Audits were completed and action plans created where necessary and medicines were mostly administered correctly.
There were enough staff and the recruitment process was thorough. Staff received relevant training and supervisions. Medicines were managed by staff who had the appropriate training. Most safety checks had been completed on the environment and the home was generally clean and tidy with improvements being made to the flooring in the bedrooms.
There was evidence of working in partnership with other services which helped to ensure continuity of care, and risk assessments and care plans were completed as required. Staff received training in the Mental Capacity Act and observations confirmed this was applied in practice.
Staff showed warmth and kindness when interacting with the people in the home. Staff expressed appreciation for the support provided by management, and regular meetings created valuable opportunities for staff, residents, and their families to engage directly with the management team.
People's experience of this service
People and their relatives spoke positively about the care they received at Allingham House Care Centre. People were treated as individuals, offered choices, and risks were effectively managed. Relatives and families told us they felt staff were attentive and their loved ones were safe and happy. Some relatives felt the manager could be more visible and some concerns were expressed about the challenging behaviour unit, however steps had already been taken to improve these areas of concern before the inspection.
People were treated with dignity and respect. When concerns were raised about the corridor size in the challenging behaviour unit, changes were agreed to increase the space.
There was a relaxed and pleasant environment in the home. Staff encouraged people to participate in activities and families were invited to share meals with their loved ones.
