Our view of the service
Date of inspection: 6 May to 28 May 2025. The inspection was carried out because the home is currently within special measures. The service is a residential home providing accommodation for persons who require personal care, some of whom are living with dementia. During this assessment we looked at 23 quality statements. The service was providing regulated activity to 19 people at the time of the assessment. During our assessment we found 2 breaches of regulation in relation to safe care and treatment and governance. We found the provider had failed to operate effective governance systems and progression was needed to ensure the management of medicines was robust. We also found improvements were needed in their infection prevention control measures and to the home’s overall environment.
We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
This service has been in Special Measures since September 2024. The provider demonstrated improvements that have been made. The service is no longer rated as inadequate overall or in any of the key questions. Therefore, this service is no longer in Special Measures.
People's experience of this service
Everyone we spoke with felt that Newlands Hall was a safe home. People and family members felt staff were well trained and supported them in accordance with their wishes. One person said, “A little while ago [Name] was very unwell, and the staff all demonstrated amazing knowledge in looking after them.”
Staff appeared to know people well and people were relaxed and comfortable in the company of staff. People were happy with the support they received. Comments included,“The staff are lovely” and “I can’t fault them at all, everyone is so caring. You feel like part of a loving family.”
