Kindness, compassion and dignity
The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect. A relative described staff as “extremely friendly, efficient, caring and professional.” People and relatives consistently described staff as kind, caring and respectful. A person said, “I can't fault them for being kind.”
Treating people as individuals
The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics. Care plans were personalised to peoples’ individual needs and preferences. A staff member said, “I believe the service provides person-centred care and treats people with dignity and respect.” People, relatives and staff consistently described care as person-centred. A person commented, “I have had the same carers a while, we get on very well. We have our laughs. If they are not sure about anything they will ask.”
Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. Staff understood the importance of maintaining independence and described how they achieved this. A staff member said, “I encourage people to do as much as they can for themselves.”
Responding to people’s immediate needs
The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress. People described staff as reliable and responsive, especially when additional support was needed. A person said, “They (care staff) are usually over the time allowed rather than under. They don't just down tools and go.”
Workforce wellbeing and enablement
The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff, and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care. Staff told us they received good support. A staff member said, “I feel well supported by the management team and my colleagues.” Staff had regular one to one supervision and staff surveys were used to identify and address any areas for improvement.
