Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 7 July 2025 when we first visited the location site. We conducted a further site visit on 16 July 2025. The home provides nursing, residential and dementia care to a maximum of 23 people. At the time of our assessment there were 23 people living at the service. This is the first assessment for this service under the new provider.
At the time of the assessment the service was undergoing significant refurbishment within the home. This had been appropriately risk assessed, and people and their relatives had been kept up to date of ongoing work. This did not impact on the care provided.
The provider had a proactive and positive culture of safety, based on openness and honesty.
We found effective systems were in place to assess and mitigate risks to people and keep them safe. The provider monitored people’s care and treatment to continuously improve it. The staff and management team treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity.
Staff listened to concerns about safety and investigated and reported safety events. The provider made sure there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff, who received effective support, supervision and development.
The provider made sure medicines and treatments were safe and met people’s needs.
People's experience of this service
When gathering people’s views, we spoke with people and their relatives, reviewed written complaints and compliments, looked at feedback from surveys and minutes of meetings.
People told us they felt safe and spoke positively about the quality of care. They felt staff were kind and treated them well, upholding and promoting their privacy and dignity. People told us they were respected and their consent to care was sought. One person said, “It’s nice [here]and the staff are nice. I always sit beside [name of person] he reminds me of my husband.” Another person said, “Yes, I feel safe.”
We observed activities in the home. People were encouraged and supported to enjoy one to one support including games, colouring and interaction with balloons encouraging hand eye coordination.
People told us they felt there was enough staff. One person said, “Oh yes, there’s enough staff. I have a buzzer, I press to go to the toilet, they are quick.” A relative said, “The staff have been lovely, every time we go, she seems happy and clean. Everyone is lovely, I couldn’t be happier with the place.”
On the whole, families told us they felt involved in their loved ones’ care. Some relatives we spoke with said they had not seen a care plan. They said the staff contact them if they have any concerns and update them on what their loved ones have been doing in the service.
People and their relatives told us the management team were visible in the home and would speak to any of them if they had any concerns. One relative told us, “I know who to go to if I have any concerns, but I don’t.”
