During an assessment under our new approach
Date of assessment: 23 June to 04 July 2026. Carpenders Park Care Home provides support to older people, some of whom are living with dementia. The service is purpose built and arranged over three floors. At the time of the assessment, there were 62 people living at the home.
People’s needs were assessed before and after they moved into the service to ensure these could be met safely. We found people received safe care and support in a home that placed a strong emphasis on dignity, independence and personalised support. People and relatives consistently spoke positively about the quality of care provided and told us they felt safe, respected and involved in decisions about their care. Staff knew people well, understood their preferences, life histories and routines, and used this knowledge to deliver care that reflected what mattered most to people.
The home was spotless and there was a range of facilities to support people’s wellbeing, social engagement and family involvement. Staff worked effectively with healthcare professionals, including GPs, district nurses and specialists, to ensure people received joined-up care and timely support when their needs changed. Care planning, risk management and monitoring systems supported positive outcomes and helped people maintain their health, wellbeing and independence.
There was strong evidence of a caring and person-centred culture. People were supported to make choices, maintain relationships, follow personal routines and participate in activities and opportunities that reflected their interests. Relatives described staff as kind, attentive and responsive, and praised the communication they received from the service. Leadership and management were visible, approachable and highly valued by people, relatives and staff. Governance systems were established and used to monitor quality, safety and outcomes.
During the assessment, some improvements were identified in relation to recruitment documentation and medicines management. The provider acted promptly to address these issues, and there was no evidence that people had experienced harm. Overall, leaders promoted an open, inclusive and positive culture, and staff worked together to provide high-quality care that supported people to live well and achieve positive outcomes.
