Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.
This is the first assessment for this newly registered service. This key question has been rated Good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. People and relatives were positive about the support they received from carers. One person said, “The carers are all lovely we get on really well.” A relative told us, “The carers are kind and caring and treat them in a respectful manner.” We read feedback from a compliment of a member of staff saying, ‘They have a warm demeanour, totally engaging and friendly.’

Treating people as individuals

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics. We saw care plans were person centred and care packages were tailored to how people wished to be supported.

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. Support packages and care plans were regularly reviewed to ensure they continued to meet peoples’ requirements and choices for support. One person said, “The staff regularly do spot checks about every 3 months.” Staff we spoke with knew people well and how they wished to be supported.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress. People told us they knew how to raise complaints or concerns with the office or with the registered manager. A relative told us, “If I had any complaints, I would ring or text the office.” Another person said, “The manager is very nice and easy to communicate with, if I had any complaints I would just call them.”

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff, and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care. Staff told us they felt very supported by the registered manager and provider and were happy working at the service. One member of staff said, “We have a great branch and a fantastic manager, they are always available and very supportive of the carers.”
