This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Kindness, compassion and dignity
The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity.
At our last assessment, we found people’s confidential records were kept insecurely in an open bookshelf in the kitchen/dining room. The team leader confirmed all visitors to the service also use the same space when visiting their loved ones. This meant people’s sensitive information was easily accessible to visitors and confidentiality was not maintained.
During this assessment, we noted confidential records were being kept securely in locked cupboards. The importance of confidentiality was understood and respected by staff. Confidential information was locked away when not in use.
Treating people as individuals
The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care and support met people’s needs and preferences.
At our last assessment, we noted staff had a good understanding of the care needs of people they supported and knew what people did and did not like and what support they needed. People were happy with the way staff cared for them. However, we found people’s needs were not fully met due to lack of guidance for staff to follow around risks, medicine management and people’s individual care needs.
During this assessment, we found people received personalised care that was responsive to their needs. Care plans contained information on how each person must be supported, as well as people’s preferences. Where people were able to, they were involved in their care planning and making decisions about their care in a way that suited their needs.
