During an assessment under our new approach

Date of assessment 1 October to 31 October 2025. We visited the care home on 1 October and 8 October 2025. Ivybank House Care Home is a residential care home providing personal care and support to up to 43 older people. At the time of this assessment there were 33 people using the service. Our unannounced assessment was carried out in response to information of concern about the safety of the care being delivered. This assessment was also prompted following concerns raised by health professionals about how the service was not working in partnership to effectively manage people’s health needs. This was a comprehensive assessment, and we reviewed all of the quality statements. This was the first comprehensive assessment for this provider.

We found no concerns about the safety of care provided. Incidents and accidents had been reported, investigated by the provider and lessons learnt were shared with staff.Staff had the right skills and qualifications to carry out their roles. We found there were enough staff to meet people’s needs. Medicines were managed safely.

The provider and the registered manager team carried our regular quality assurance checks. Staff told us the registered manager and leaders were approachable. Safety checks had been completed for equipment used and fire risks were acted on, assessed and managed. We found care plans were person centred and reflected how people’s needs were met.The service had made improvements to strengthen partnership working with healthcare professionals and health care partners confirmed this. However, people’s records of care did not always reflect what support had been given. The provider confirmed they were aware of shortfalls in record keeping and were actively addressing this with staff.

During an assessment under our new approach

Date of assessment 20 August to 21 October 2024. This assessment was carried out in response to information of concern about the service. Overall, we looked at 6 quality statements in the safe, responsive and well led domains. We found people were being supported by other services and professionals. Staff were able to tell us how to keep people safe from harm and abuse and had received training relevant to their roles. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. They were aware of how to record information and to keep people’s data safe. There were regular quality reviews and audits being completed by the provider, with subsequent action plans in place. The service was going through a period of change and we saw an improvement in the governance oversight from the new provider.

However, staff told us they were busy which meant they did not always have regular breaks and people’s needs were not always being met. We observed staff were task-based, but the provider told us they were working on how staff were being deployed in the service to meet people’s needs more effectively. The provider had recently moved to an electronic care planning system and was aware of ongoing work needed to ensure care plans and risk assessments reflected people’s needs accurately and managed people’s risks. The provider had an action plan in place and had brought in extra resources to support the service.
