The service is a care home providing support to older people living with dementia, and physical disabilities. The provider had a proactive and positive culture of safety. Staff listened to concerns about safety and investigated and reported safety events. Lessons were learnt to continually identify and embed good practice. Staff concentrated on improving people’s lives whilst protecting their right to live in safety, free from bullying, harassment, abuse, discrimination, avoidable harm and neglect. The provider worked with people to understand and manage risks by thinking holistically. Staff provided care to meet people’s needs that was safe, supportive and enabled people to do the things that mattered to them. The provider did not always detect and control potential risks in the care environment. The provider assessed and managed the risk of infection. The provider made sure medicines and treatments were safe and met people’s needs, capacities and preferences. The provider supported people to manage their health and wellbeing to maximise their independence, choice and control. Staff supported people to live healthier lives. The provider did not always routinely monitor people’s care and treatment to continuously improve it. Processes were in place to ensure care and treatment was provided with the consent of the relevant person. The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. The provider made it easy for people to share feedback and ideas, or raise complaints about their care, treatment and support. The provider fostered a positive culture where people felt they could speak up and their voice would be heard.
