Beeston Rise Care Home is a purpose-built residential home, providing accommodation and personal care for adults and people living with dementia or mental health needs. The service can support up to 66 people across 3 floors. There were 54 people living in the service at the time of assessment.

This comprehensive assessment was undertaken due to the service not having been inspected since they registered with the commission on 28 July 2023, along with information of concern we had received.

The home was clean and well maintained, however we found topical creams in rooms and electrical cupboards which were unlocked. The provider took immediate action.

Staff were kind and compassionate, however there did not appear to be sufficient staff. We observed communal areas understaffed and people having to wait for support. We raised this with the provider who conducted a review of staffing and implemented changes.

Communication between staff and with external professionals had broken down, meaning that people did not always receive reviews of their healthcare needs in a timely manager. The provider was aware of this and was working with healthcare partners to improve and rebuild relationships.

We identified concerns in relation to how the care home was managed and the impact this had on the service overall. Staff consistently described not feeling supported, valued or listened to by management. Staff explained management had not fostered a positive culture where they felt confident about speaking up and having their opinions taken seriously which had negatively impacted upon their morale and wellbeing. At the time of the assessment, the registered manager was out of the service, and the regional manager had recently stepped in to support. This additional management support had begun to show signs of an improved culture; however, continued work was needed to rebuild trust.
