Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 25 August 2026
Beeston Rise Care Home is a purpose-built residential home, providing accommodation and personal care for adults and people living with dementia or mental health needs. The service can support up to 66 people across 3 floors. There were 54 people living in the service at the time of assessment.
This comprehensive assessment was undertaken due to the service not having been inspected since they registered with the commission on 28 July 2023, along with information of concern we had received.
The home was clean and well maintained, however we found topical creams in rooms and electrical cupboards which were unlocked. The provider took immediate action.
Staff were kind and compassionate, however there did not appear to be sufficient staff. We observed communal areas understaffed and people having to wait for support. We raised this with the provider who conducted a review of staffing and implemented changes.
Communication between staff and with external professionals had broken down, meaning that people did not always receive reviews of their healthcare needs in a timely manager. The provider was aware of this and was working with healthcare partners to improve and rebuild relationships.
We identified concerns in relation to how the care home was managed and the impact this had on the service overall. Staff consistently described not feeling supported, valued or listened to by management. Staff explained management had not fostered a positive culture where they felt confident about speaking up and having their opinions taken seriously which had negatively impacted upon their morale and wellbeing. At the time of the assessment, the registered manager was out of the service, and the regional manager had recently stepped in to support. This additional management support had begun to show signs of an improved culture; however, continued work was needed to rebuild trust.
People's experience of this service
People told us they felt safe at the service.
People were confident in staff’s skills and knowledge overall. However, some people told us they had to guide staff. One person told us, “I have to tell them what I need and how they can help. They seem grateful when I tell them what they need to do.”
There was trust from people who use the service and their relatives regarding medicines. One relative told us, “We haven’t had any issues with [persons] medication. They seem to review [their] medication quite often.”
People were happy with how the home was maintained. One person told us, “The cleaning seems excellent. The corridors and my room are kept spick and span.”
People told us they would raise concerns if needed but often found difficulty in finding someone to speak to. People told us they were not involved in regular care plan reviews but told us they were updated on any changes with health care needs and appointments.
There was a considerable amount of feedback provided regarding staffing levels. People did not feel the service was adequately staffed, meaning people had to wait or were left without support. One relative told us, “I do think they are short of staff. They just leave [person] on [their] own all the time. It would be nice if someone could go and talk to [them] from time to time.” Another relative told us, “There should be a few more staff. Sometimes there aren’t any staff in the lounge which I don’t think is right.”
People were happy and expressed enjoyment with the activities on offer.
