Kindness, compassion and dignity

Staff treated people with kindness, compassion and respect. People told us their privacy was respected. People liked the staff who cared for them. They had good relationships with staff. Comments from people included, “The family all have a good relationship with the carer”, “My carer respects my privacy” and “[Care worker] is a very kind person.” People told us staff respected their homes, families and lifestyle.

Staff spoke about people with fondness and in a respectful way.

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

Staff treated people as individuals. The provider supported people by providing staff who spoke the same language and understood their culture. The registered manager recorded information about people’s culture, religion and things that were important to them in care plans. People told us they appreciated staff who understood their individual needs. Staff supported some people to get ready for prayer and to attend places of worship. Comments from people using the service included, “The agency provides good care to me which meets my needs” and “I am happy my carer speaks in my language so I can communicate with them.”

Independence, choice and control

People were supported to remain independent when they wanted, and this was safe for them to do so. They confirmed staff did not restrict them and encouraged them to be involved and to do things for themselves.

People told us staff offered them choices and respected their decisions. Their comments included, “I am given choices. They listen to me and never do anything I do not want” and “The carers provide a choice each day and never do what they think I want. They always ask.”

Responding to people’s immediate needs

Staff responded to people’s immediate needs. They told us they knew people well and were able to identify if something was not right. Staff worked closely with people and their relatives to discuss any concerns they had. People told us they were able to contact the registered manager if they needed at any time.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The agency supported staff wellbeing. Staff told us they liked working for the agency and felt supported. They explained the registered manager was available when they needed and was always supportive. Their comments included, “The registered manager is amazing. [They] really care about staff. For example, checking up on us when it is a hot day” and “I feel supported by the manager. It is nice to talk with [them]. I can reach out anytime and [they] always check in on me.”
