Our view of the service
On the 11 February 2026 we carried out a comprehensive assessment of Erica Road, (Acute Ambulance and Medical Services) an independent ambulance service.
The assessment was carried out due to concerns about the service, and the location had not been inspected before.
Acute Ambulance Medical Services registered with CQC in 2011 to deliver the regulated activities: Transport services, triage and medical advice provided remotely and Treatment of disease, disorder or injury. The service had a Registered Manager, who was also the service’s Nominated Individual.
We assessed 1 assessment service group, Patient Transport Services (PTS). The service supported NHS providers., local authorities, private contracts, repatriation and medical cover for events. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) does not currently regulate medical cover at events; however, we do assess medical transport provided from events. The service provides medical transport for children with special educational needs during school term time.
We visited the ambulance base as part of the assessment.
At this assessment we identified breaches of regulations 12 Safe Care and Treatment, 17 Good Governance and 18 Staffing. We found the service to be in breach of a registration regulation relating to notification of other incidents to CQC.
We rated the location as requires improvement. We found breaches in regulations relating to: safeguarding, medicines management, incident reporting, safe environments, safe staffing, and processes for governance and the management of risk.
