Updated 24 April 2025

This assessment was carried out between 30 April 2025 to 28 May 2025. We visited the home on 30 April and 21 May 2025.

At the time of the inspection there were 18 people living at the home, 2 of these were staying at the home for a period of respite.

Magnolia House fostered a strong learning culture led by an engaged and proactive registered manager. The staff ensured people’s safety through thorough incident reporting, risk assessments, and staff training in safeguarding and the Mental Capacity Act (2005) (MCA). People generally felt safe and well cared for.

The environment was clean and well-maintained, although some areas needed updating. Staffing levels were generally sufficient, but staff were not always present in the communal area when an external door was open. The registered manager said they would review people’s dependencies and look at staff deployment. Staff were recruited through robust processes and received regular supervision and development.

Medicines were mainly managed safely, with improvements planned for guidance on ‘as required’ medications and recording practices.

Care was person-centred, with people and their relatives involved in decisions. Care plans were regularly updated via an electronic care system. People’s health needs were closely monitored, with strong collaboration with healthcare professionals, including a weekly GP visit.

Staff were compassionate, respectful, and upheld peoples’ dignity. Visitors were welcomed, and the home maintained a calm, responsive atmosphere. Activities were offered and efforts were underway to improve engagement due to some people’s feedback.

Communication was effective at the home, and feedback was actively sought. Equality, diversity, and human rights were respected, with inclusive training provided. End-of-life care was handled with sensitivity and respect.

The provider operated with a vision of transparency, inclusion, and continuous improvement. The leadership of the registered manager was strong, visible, and trusted, with effective governance and a culture of innovation and learning.
