Kindness, compassion and dignity

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.

 

People and relatives, we spoke with told us they and their loved ones were treated with kindness. One person told us, “Staff treat me well and are kind and caring.” A relative told us, “Excellent, couldn’t do more.”
 

Treating people as individuals

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics.

Care plans contained information which was up to date. A staff member told us, “I tailor care and support by getting to know each person as an individual with their personal preferences, cultural background, social interests, and religious beliefs. I involve them in decisions about their care and adapt my approach to respect their values and routines. This helps ensure they feel understood, supported, and comfortable while receiving care that suits them personally.”

Independence, choice and control

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. People told us they were able to choose what they would like to do. A staff member told us, “I support people to maintain independence by encouraging them to do as much as they can for themselves safely, whether it’s personal care, daily tasks, or activities. I also involve them in decisions about their routines, social interactions, and relationships, respecting their choices and preferences. This approach helps them feel in control of their lives while receiving the support they need.”

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress. People and their relatives told us staff attended on time. One person told us, “Staff come quick if I need them. I have no concerns.”

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care. A staff member told us, “The service supports my wellbeing and safety at work through regular training, clear policies, and a supportive environment. I feel listened to when I raise concerns, as management takes them seriously, provides feedback, and acts promptly. This makes me feel valued, safe, and confident in my role.”
