Kindness, compassion and dignity

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.

 

People reported positive experiences of care. Staff were described as kind, respectful and focused on promoting people’s independence. People told us they felt cared for and valued, and relatives described staff as compassionate and understanding.

 

Survey feedback demonstrated that the provider had a strong focus on compassion and supporting staff wellbeing. Feedback from people and relatives was consistently positive. One person told us, “They’re very experienced and kind.”

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics.

 

People told us they were supported by staff who knew them well and understood how they liked things to be done. Comments included, “Yes they listen to me,” and “One of the [staff members] is phenomenal.”

Independence, choice and control

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.

 

Staff demonstrated a clear understanding of the importance of offering choice and supporting people to make their own decisions. One staff member told us, “My duty of care is person centred care. We give them choice to make their preference and support them based on that.” The provider promoted a positive culture where people were encouraged to maintain control over their care and daily lives.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress.

 

People received timely support to minimise any distress. Staff listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. They responded promptly to people’s immediate needs, including recognising and acting quickly when someone was in pain or discomfort.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff, and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care.

 

Staff were well supported in their roles, and the service promoted their wellbeing. The registered manager maintained regular contact with staff through supervision, team meetings and informal check ins. Staff told us they felt able to approach leaders and that support was consistently available. One staff member said, “Yes, they are approachable, they give us support when we speak to them, they listen to us. They assure us and act.”
