Leggyfield Court (Care Outlook)

Leggyfield Court is an extra‑care service supporting older people, younger adults, people living with mental health conditions, sensory impairments and those living with dementia and physical disabilities. Extra care housing at Leggyfield Court is purpose-built accommodation in a shared building. The accommodation is rented or owned and is the occupant's own home.

During our assessment we found risks to people were not always identified or managed at the point of admission, meaning staff did not always have the information needed to deliver safe, consistent care. The provider was in breach of the legal regulation relating to governance. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment. 

However, we observed staff interacting with people professionally and warmly, demonstrating a commitment to person-centred care and individual dignity. Staff had received the training needed to fulfil their roles and described the registered manager and senior staff as approachable and felt confident raising concerns as well as giving feedback.

The registered manager and staff had created an open, inclusive, and positive culture that embraced their diverse backgrounds to promote person-centred care, with staff even sharing their heritage through cultural dance shows to build strong professional relationships with the people they supported.

While people were generally satisfied with the care they received, our assessment identified areas where care planning and risk management did not always meet expected standards.

People said they felt safe at Leggyfield Court and they could raise concerns and issues independently or with the support of staff when they needed to. People spoke fondly about the staff and told us they were supported to meet their needs by staff who knew them and understood how to communicate with them. We observed staff interacting with people in a familiar and friendly manner, and staff spoke about the importance of respecting the people they support.

People had mixed feedback about the promptness of staff responses to care requests when using their call bells. However, the majority of people were happy with staff responses alongside attendance of their scheduled care visits. Staff told us there were enough staff to meet people’s needs and we observed staff responding to people in a calm unrushed manner.

People told us their independence was promoted and they had choice and were involved in their care planning. People said they enjoyed the activities on offer and had the opportunity to socialise with others in communal areas if they chose to do so.
