During an assessment under our new approach

Date of Assessment: 26 August 2025 to 22 September 2025. Silver Mews Care Homeis a residential care home. It supports up to 41 adults and older people, some of whom are living with dementia. The service is set over 2 floors with access to enclosed gardens. At the time of this assessment 33 people were using the service.

This was a responsive assessment due to concerns raised to CQC about infection control, safe care and treatment, and governance. The assessment was unannounced.

We found breaches of the legal regulations in relation to medicines management, infection prevention and control, and the safety of the environment. There were inconsistencies in people’s care records with some being more detailed and person-centred than others. We identified shortfalls in the delivery of person-centred care, particularly the provision of activities. Management oversight of the service needed improvement and quality assurance audits had not identified or remedied all the issues found at this assessment.

Staff were not up to date with all training. There were not always enough staff to cover additional roles such as cleaning and activities although the provider was actively recruiting.

We received mixed feedback from relatives and staff about the way concerns were addressed. There had been a number of concerns raised about the quality of food and during the assessment some people told us this was still an issue.

We observed some positive and caring interactions between staff and people using the service. Staff responded quickly to people when they made requests, and the atmosphere was calm and relaxed especially at busy mealtimes.

The home was decorated to a high standard and had a variety of communal areas for people to use. However, some areas were infrequently used and were not always decorated to best suit the needs of people living with a dementia.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
