Safe
We assessed two quality statements in the safe key question. We found an open culture where staff safeguarded children and managed risk effectively. We saw compassionate care delivered to children with effective and consistent observations overnight.
There was good evidence of clinical governance happening and lessons learned being shared with the staff in a timely manner.

Learning culture
Staff had a comprehensive understanding of each child’s care plans. Staff told us how they accessed training, and all staff had a comprehensive understanding of the Monitoring and Observation Policy.
Staff followed best practice and were diligent in reporting to senior clinicians with concerns about changes in children’s health and need.
Safe systems, pathways and transitions
The judgement for Safe systems, pathways and transitions is based on the latest evidence we assessed for the Safe key question.
Safeguarding
We observed competent safe practice throughout all of the homes we assessed and we also saw clear adherence to care plans which were up to date with risk assessments for all areas of care, medicines and equipment management. Staff told us that they checked children’s equipment on every shift but we found inconsistent documentation of these equipment checks in children’s records.
