Our view of the service
The Children's Trust – Tadworth, provides a residential children's home for children and young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, a residential rehabilitation service for children and young people with acquired brain injury and a short breaks service. The Children's Trust offers a wide range of services. They can accommodate 66 children and young people across seven houses.
Ofsted are the lead regulator for The Children's Trust as it is a children's home. The service is also registered with the Care Quality Commission for the regulated activity of treatment of disease, disorder, or injury.
We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people, respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence, and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. 'Right support, right care, right culture' is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people, and providers must have regard to it.
We conducted this focussed assessment out of hours on 26th March 2025 to review the impact of recent changes to the service’s monitoring and observation of children, particularly overnight. We assessed the one to one care and observations of children overnight. We also focused our assessment on leaders’ response to incidents following three notifications of incidents to CQC over a six-month period.
We assessed six quality statements from the safe, effective and well-led key questions and found areas of good practice from the revised policy of monitoring and observation as well as an improved and rigorous approach to the recording, management, investigation and learning of incidents.
We have recommended that the provider should strengthen their recording of equipment checks in children’s records when there is equipment in children’s bedrooms.
