Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 23rd and 25th February 2026

Anley Hall Nursing Home provided care and support for older adults, including people living with dementia, physical disabilities and mental health conditions. At the time of the assessment, 48 people were living at the service. People experienced a good standard of care. The environment was clean, safe and generally well maintained, and staff responded quickly to people’s needs. Staffing levels were consistently high, and staff were observed working well together, speaking positively about the service and demonstrating kind, compassionate interactions. People and relatives told us they felt safe, respected and involved in their care.

Care planning was person‑centred and up to date, with assessments reflecting people’s wishes, risks and health needs. Mealtime observations showed people received appetising food that met their dietary needs. People were supported to make choices and maintain independence.

Activities were varied and accessible, including one to one support for people cared for in their rooms. Medicines were administered safely, and the service acted promptly on feedback, although some ‘as and when required medicines’ (PRN) protocols and documentation required further strengthening.

Leaders promoted an open, inclusive culture and were visible, supportive and responsive. Staff felt valued and confident to speak up, and relatives reported positive relationships with managers.

Governance systems were generally effective, with audits identifying issues, though some actions were not consistently tracked or dated and monthly incident analysis had not been formalised. Nonetheless, strong teamwork, proactive learning and constructive partnership working with healthcare professionals contributed to positive outcomes. Overall, Anley Hall demonstrated a stable, caring culture focused on continuous improvement and delivering safe, person‑centred care.

People's experience of this service

People told us they had a positive experience living at the service. People described feeling happy, safe and well cared for, with 1 person saying they were “very happy, the staff were kind and the food was lovely”. Relatives consistently said the staff provided kind, respectful care and that they would recommend the service, describing it as “so clean, caring, and it appears the staff really want to be here.”

People felt safe, and both people and relatives told us staff responded quickly to call bells. One person said, “If I buzz during the night, the staff are really quick to come into my room”, while a relative told us staff arrived “within moments… and never left the person alone.”

People enjoyed the food and told us meals were appetising, homemade and offered with choice. One person said, “We get a good hot meal on a hot plate,” while a relative said meals were “home cooked and very good… people are always given a choice and the offer of seconds.” During end of life care, relatives spoke with appreciation about staff providing food and refreshments, describing this as greatly valued.

Activities were meaningful and varied, including groups, entertainers, and one‑to‑one sessions such as artwork, manicures and reading. A person told us they enjoyed “knit and natter”, games and time outdoors, explaining there were “wonderful views… with benches and sitting areas”. The garden was accessible and well‑kept.

People felt staff supported their dignity, choice and independence. One person said staff checked they were happy with clothing choices and would change them “If I’m not happy.” Relatives also told us their views were welcomed, explaining, “The staff invite my thoughts and show me the revised plan.”

Overall, people experienced a warm, calm and compassionate atmosphere. Staff were described as kind, skilled and attentive, and observations showed positive engagement throughout the home.
