Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 4

The provider treated patients with kindness, empathy and compassion, and respected their privacy and dignity.

Patients were supported to be involved in their care, including the option to have friends, family members or others present during consultations and treatments where appropriate. Patients also had access to a chaperone, and staff undertaking this role understood their responsibilities in maintaining patients’ dignity, safety and comfort during intimate examinations.

Feedback from patients was overwhelmingly positive about the care they received. We received 131 responses to our request for feedback, all of which were positive. Patients consistently described staff as caring and helpful, with many highlighting the kind and compassionate approach taken by the provider.

The provider demonstrated a strong commitment to helping and supporting people through the provision of pro bono services for several patients including those experiencing social isolation, immigration-related challenges, or sudden changes in personal circumstances. The provider demonstrated a proactive and compassionate approach and told us they were committed to ensuring that financial constraints did not prevent people from receiving appropriate support and care.

Treating people as individuals

The provider treated patients as individuals, and made sure their care, support and treatment met their needs and preferences whenever possible.

If required, the provider was able to access translation and interpretation support to facilitate assessments and care delivery.

Training in equality, diversity, and inclusion, had been undertaken by most staff, which supported the provider in understanding the individual needs of patients.

Independence, choice and control

Following registration, there was an initial assessment of the needs of patients, followed by a discussion of available care and treatment options.

Information was available within the service which directed patients to a website with information on a wide range of health conditions.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

Score: 3

The provider listened to and understood patient’s needs, views and wishes. They responded to these needs, and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress. The provider worked with the patient throughout their time with the service and carried out a detailed initial assessment of both immediate and ongoing needs.

Emergency medicines were kept onsite securely, and checks on emergency medicines were carried out and recorded regularly. Staff received basic life support training.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Feedback from staff as part of this assessment was positive regarding their work for the provider. Staff told us that they were well supported in their work.

Staff told us they were given protected time to carry out training and reported a positive work culture where they were encouraged and supported to share feedback and raise concerns.

The provider supported staff well-being through a range of initiatives, including regular social activities and flexible working options. These measures helped promote a positive workplace culture and supported staff satisfaction.
