During an assessment under our new approach

Date of Assessment: 27 August 2025, Berrycroft Community Health Centre is a GP practice and delivers service to about 29000 patients under a contract held with NHS England. National General Practice Profiles states that at the time of our assessment there were 69.2% were White, 18.4% Asian, 5.4 Black and 7% other ethnic groups). Information published by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows that deprivation within the practice population group is in the 9 decile (9 of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the practice population is relative to others. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery.

We carried out this assessment to follow up on a breach found at our last inspection during May 2024, at which time the practice was rated requires improvement for delivering safe care. During this assessment, we found that the provider had addressed the concerns and made improvements and is no longer in breach of regulation 12, safe care and treatment.

As part of the assessment, we reviewed the most recent National GP Patient Survey for 2025, NHS Friends and Family Test (FFT) and internal survey results. The National GP Patient Survey for 2025 indicated that the practice was performing below the national average scores for patient satisfaction in relation to equity in access and experience. For example, we found 83%of respondents felt involved in decisions about their care and treatment during their last general practice appointment, this was lower than the local average of 92% and national average of 91%. However, the recent internal patient survey (that replicated national survey questions) and the Friends and Family test (FFT) results shared by the practice, between April 2025 and July 2025, showed much higher levels of satisfaction, with a majority of respondents rating their experience as good or very good.

During an assessment under our new approach

Date of assessment: 22 May to 23 May 2024.

We assessed all quality statements under the key questions of Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led. Berrycroft Community Health Centre provides NHS GP services to 28,000 patients and this was the first assessment at the service. The practice is rated as good overall with the key question safe rated as requires improvement. During the assessment, we found the service was providing effective, caring, responsive and well-led services. However, we found concerns related to medicines management and the consolidation of patients’ records from their old GP practices which resulted in breach of Regulation 12 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulate Activities) Regulations 2014. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
