Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 6 August 2025 to 11 August 2025. The service is a residential care home providing support to people over 65 years old, including people living with dementia. At the time of this inspection, there were 65 people living at the home.

We found there were systems in place to assess the level of staff required to support people according to their needs. However people, relatives and staff shared mixed feedback about staffing levels. We shared this feedback with the management team and after our visit we were informed staffing levels were increased. We made a recommendation about staffing.

Overall, medicines were well managed, and we did not find any medication errors. However, we identified some areas where medication records needed to improve. We made a recommendation about medicines management.

People told us they felt safe. We found risks to people’s care were assessed and appropriate plans put in place to manage those risks.

The provider had a good learning culture and people, relatives and staff felt able to raise concerns. Accidents and incidents were being recorded, patterns analysed, and actions taken. The facilities and equipment met people’s needs, were clean and well-maintained.

Managers ensured staff received training and regular supervision to maintain high-quality care. Staff told us they felt well supported by management.

Care was delivered to people in a person-centred way. Staff treated people with respect for their dignity and human rights.

The management team were knowledgeable about people’s needs. The registered manager was responsive to inspection findings and feedback and acted or told us the actions they would take in response to our feedback.

People's experience of this service

We spoke with 10 people and 5 relatives about their experience of the care provided. We observed care in the communal areas to help us understand the experience of people living at the home.

People told us they enjoyed living at the home. Their comments included, “The carers are very good to me. I feel happy;” “I am looked after very well and I am happy here” and “It is one of the best places I have been in. They show you kindness, that's the most important thing for me.”

People and relatives told us staff were kind to people and supported them in a way that made them feel well cared for. A person told us, “Yes, they really want to be helpful and they [staff] make me feel good. They come and have a chat with you.” A relative commented, “They had a do for [person’s] one hundredth birthday. They had music playing and they made [person] a birthday cake. [Person] enjoyed it.”

In our observations of care, we found people and staff having relaxed conversations, and people’s needs being met in a person-centred way.
