Our view of the service

We carried out this assessment between 7 January and 11 February 2025. The Meadows Nursing Home is a care home providing support to older people living with dementia and physical disabilities. This assessment was completed to check the provider had made improvements following enforcement action taken after our last visit in February 2024, where we found concerns in relation to governance, safe care and treatment, premises and equipment, person centred care and recruitment. This resulted in us issuing warning notices for Regulations 12 and 17, a continued breach of Regulation 9 and new breach of Regulation 19. During the current assessment, we found ongoing breaches in regulation in relation to safe care and treatment, person centred care, recruitment and governance.

The provider did not have effective governance systems in place to monitor and improve the quality of the service. Environmental risks were not monitored and managed effectively. Care plans were not person-centred, accurate or up to date. Falls, incidents, accidents and allegations of abuse were not effectively analysed. Staff did not always receive appropriate training to carry out their role effectively and safely.

In instances where CQC has decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded. This service remains in special measures. The purpose of special measures is to ensure that services providing inadequate care make significant improvements. Special measures provide a framework within which we user our enforcement powers in response to inadequate care and provide a timeframe within which providers must improve the quality of the care they provide.

People's experience of this service

We spoke with 1 person and 10 relatives. We carried out observations in communal areas and spoke with relatives both on and off site, the feedback we received was mixed. Some people and relatives told us there had been improvements in the service. One person said, “Things are a bit better since you came last time”. Some relatives told us the service was better organised, but some felt there could be improvements in communication and taking their family members out more.
