Our view of the service
Davenham Hall Nursing Home provides accommodation for up to 73 people who require nursing or personal care, including those living with dementia. At the time of our inspection 62 people lived in the home.The service has been rated good following this assessment. This was a responsive assessment due to concerns the Care Quality Commission received regarding safe care and treatment. Issues highlighted during this assessment were immediately acted upon by the provider. This included upgrading window restrictors and work to the outside environment. Whilst people and their loved ones were generally happy with the care and support provided,issues were highlighted around the quality of food.
The provider had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns. Accidents, incidents and complaints had been recorded and were investigated. People’s choices and wishes were respected, and lawful processes were followed for people who lacked capacity to make their own decisions. People’s health was promoted by safe infection prevention and control practices. People were protected and kept safe. Staff understood and managed risks. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Managers made sure staff received training and regular appraisals to maintain high-quality care. Staff managed medicines well and involved people in planning any changes.
People's experience of this service
People and their loved ones were positive about the quality of their care. People were treated with kindness and compassion. People’s relatives told us they observed staff protecting people’s privacy and dignity and respecting people’s choices. People were encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends. People’s relatives told us they were free to visit the service at any time and were always made to feel welcome.
People’s relatives told us they were involved in pre-assessments, and some told us they had been involved in care plan reviews. Overall, people and their relatives told us they felt the staff team were knowledgeable and skilled.
