Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. One relative said, “He’s had a wonderful life, he’s had choices and chances. They have given [Name] opportunities to do things for himself. He went on a helicopter. He went to London to see trooping of the colours. He’s played football in Geneva with Mencap.”
People were supported to remain as independent as possible. One person told us staff supported them to remain independent as they were able to wash themselves, but due to their injuries some areas were more difficult, and staff were there to support when needed. One person said they often went out into the local community on their own to go the shops and staff encouraged this.
