Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. People told us they were supported to make decisions and choices about their daily lives, such as what to eat, where to spend their time and what to wear. We saw staff routinely offered choices and spoke with people about their preferences.
People were supported to maintain as much independence as possible. One person described how staff supported them to plan shopping trips with friends and another person said, “I can do whatever I want, sometimes I need a bit of help but mostly they (staff) watch to make sure I’m safe.” A relative told us, “When [loved one] first went in they needed help with feeding, now they do it themselves…I’m really impressed.”
