Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 13 November 2025 to 9 January 2026. Homewards Limited – 48 Leonard Road is a care home. It provides accommodation with personal care for up to 4 people with a learning disability or autistic people. At the time of this assessment 3 people were using the service.
We assessed the service against ‘right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed autistic people and people with a learning disability respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.
People were kept safe risk was assessed and managed well, staff kept people safe and supported them to regularly access their community and take part in different activities.
Staff understood their safeguarding responsibilities and knew how to whistleblow if they suspected people were subjected to poor care.
Staff were recruited safely and given an effective induction and ongoing training support to ensure they had the skills to support people living at the home. There were enough staff to meet people’s needs and people received care from a stable staff team which supported continuity of care within the home.
People’s preferences were known by staff and care plans made it clear what these were and were reviewed and updated regularly. People had enough to eat and drink and people were offered meals that respected their religious needs and culture.
Medicines were managed safely within the home. The home and environment was clean and tidy to ensure people could move safely and freely.
The home worked well with people, involving them in daily decisions and making decisions in their best interests when required, People’s relatives and health professionals were regularly consulted about their care and expert knowledge was acted on by the home when they needed additional support for example, where there had been a bereavement, the home worked with health professionals to support the person.
Staff were kind and patient with people; they respected people’s privacy and promoted their independence as much as possible.
Quality monitoring took place and was effective in the home. Actions were identified for follow up and staff took action which improved the service people received.
People's experience of this service
People told us they were happy at the home and felt safe. People were supported to spend time with people who mattered to them and to engage in activities they enjoyed. Information was provided to people in a format they understood, and staff took the time to explain information to people.
Relatives told us they were welcome to visit any time and that staff supported visits when they could not attend. A relative said, “I’m glad [person] is not too far away, they [staff] never stop you visiting, when I get there, they say your mum is here."
