Eleanor Palmer Trust Home is a care home providing nursing and personal care for up to 34 people. The service supports older people, some of whom have dementia. At the time of the assessment there were 34 people living in the home.
The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulation in relation to safe care and treatment following our last inspection in November 2022. Improvements were found at this inspection and the provider was no longer in breach of regulations.
The service was safe for people. The management team consisted of excellent leaders who, along with a strong staff team, delivered exceptional and compassionate care to people.The home environment was well maintained and dementia friendly. We found risks related to people’s care were assessed and monitored. Medicines for people were managed safely and people received their medicines as prescribed. People were supported to have choice and control and were involved in planning their care. People were protected from the risk of harm and abuse.
People’s care plans were detailed and well written. They were personalised and addressed people’s needs and wishes. People were supported to have choice and control and were involved in planning their care. Processes to record accidents and incidents were in place and lessons were learned from them. There were enough staff to ensure people’s safety and meet their needs.
Staff were exceptionally kind and caring. They protected people’s privacy and dignity. People were treated as individuals and their equality and diversity needs were supported and respected. People were supported to have a good quality of life. Staff communicated with people with respect, kindness and compassion. People were encouraged to be independent as much as possible and staff sought their consent. People received compassionate palliative or end of life care.
The provider monitored the service to ensure people were safe and to drive continuous improvements. Staff received training and support to develop in their roles. Leaders in the service were innovative, compassionate and worked very well with partners and professionals. They were supportive of staff and people and shared a strong ethos with a positive vision and culture based on good outcomes and wellbeing.
