Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 19 July 2025 to 23 July 2025
Eleanor Palmer Trust Home is a care home providing nursing and personal care for up to 34 people. The service supports older people, some of whom have dementia. At the time of the assessment there were 34 people living in the home.
The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulation in relation to safe care and treatment following our last inspection in November 2022. Improvements were found at this inspection and the provider was no longer in breach of regulations.
The service was safe for people. The management team consisted of excellent leaders who, along with a strong staff team, delivered exceptional and compassionate care to people.The home environment was well maintained and dementia friendly. We found risks related to people’s care were assessed and monitored. Medicines for people were managed safely and people received their medicines as prescribed. People were supported to have choice and control and were involved in planning their care. People were protected from the risk of harm and abuse.
People’s care plans were detailed and well written. They were personalised and addressed people’s needs and wishes. People were supported to have choice and control and were involved in planning their care. Processes to record accidents and incidents were in place and lessons were learned from them. There were enough staff to ensure people’s safety and meet their needs.
Staff were exceptionally kind and caring. They protected people’s privacy and dignity. People were treated as individuals and their equality and diversity needs were supported and respected. People were supported to have a good quality of life. Staff communicated with people with respect, kindness and compassion. People were encouraged to be independent as much as possible and staff sought their consent. People received compassionate palliative or end of life care.
The provider monitored the service to ensure people were safe and to drive continuous improvements. Staff received training and support to develop in their roles. Leaders in the service were innovative, compassionate and worked very well with partners and professionals. They were supportive of staff and people and shared a strong ethos with a positive vision and culture based on good outcomes and wellbeing.
People's experience of this service
People and their relatives felt the service was safe. They got on well with the staff and managers in the service. People and relatives were involved in care planning and were asked for their feedback. They felt respected and treated well by staff, who understood their individual equality characteristics, needs and preferences. They were able to speak with staff and the management team to raise any issues and they were listened to. We observed very caring interactions between people and staff. People’s choices were respected and there was a relaxed and welcoming environment. People were supported by staff who were trained in how to support them. Comments from people and relatives included, “I am very safe, it’s really nice in the home.” Another person told us, “I am well cared for and have no problems.” A relative said, “[Family member] has been living here for almost 2 years. They are absolutely well looked after and safe. It’s so homely and run as a home for people to enjoy living in. The residents always look happy.” Another comment from a relative was, “[Family member] is safe. The care is outstanding and [family member] enjoys the company of everyone.
