Longview is a residential care home. People in care homes receive accommodation and nursing or personal care as a single package under one contractual agreement. Longview is a care home without nursing care. CQC regulates both the premises and the care provided and both were looked at during this inspection. Longview provides accommodation for up to 70 older people including those living with dementia. There were a total of 64 people living at the service at the time of our inspection. Accommodation is provided over 2 floors and people have access to communal areas.
The inspection was completed to follow up on the last inspection to see if improvements had been made. At the last inspection the service was rated requires improvement and had been in breach of legal regulation in relation to safe care and treatment, safeguarding service users from abuse and improper treatment, good governance and staffing. Improvements were found at this inspection, and the provider was no longer in breach of these regulations. This inspection was unannounced.
Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way which was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. There were enough staff to meet people’s needs. Staff received the correct training and supervision to support people safely.
People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice.
The registered manager had good oversight of the service, they had encouraged a culture of learning and development. There were systems in place to monitor and review care and people’s experience at the service.

People were able to share positive feedback to us about living at the service. People told us they felt safe and well looked after by caring and supportive staff. A person told us, “I like living here. They have everything I need and the staff are wonderful.” A relative told us, “Longview is a very safe place which is comforting for the family as we know [relative] is well looked after, they get fed good food, prompted with medication and to take showers.”
Some people could not directly tell us about their experience. We used a structured observation tool to assess whether they received good care. This approach showed us staff were patient and did not rush when providing support. People were listened to and staff were prompt to respond to people’s needs to minimise any distress or delay.
People and relatives told us the management team and staff were friendly and approachable and they praised the homely, welcoming atmosphere of the service. A relative told us, “The staff are very kind and show great kindness to all residents, everyone seems happy.” Another relative told us, “I know the manager and deputy manager and in my opinion the home is well run, and the staff work incredibly hard. If I had any concerns, I would speak up straight away.”
