During an assessment under our new approach

This assessment took place between 28th July 2025 and 20th August 2025.

Pickworth House is a five bedded service which provides 24-hour residential care to people with a learning disability who required specialist support due to mental health difficulties or forensic needs. Peoplewho were supported within the home primarily required a high level of support due to risk. Care planned interventions were used designed to work towards either an eventual transition to community supported living, or to avoid admission to complex care inpatient services. Length of stay varied, however proactive preventative support ensured progression remained the focus of each placement. Pickworth House provided a good level of care and oversight via joint working though external professional teams. People’s medicines were managed safely and their health and well-being monitored. Staff had a good understanding of safeguarding and mental health processes and felt that they were supported and well trained. Staff sought people’s consent and treated people with respect, promoting choice and encouraged people to understand and apply their rights. Information was presented in ways people could understand, and individual communication needs were understood by staff.

We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.
