Our current view of the service

Requires improvement

Updated 21 January 2026

We carried out this inspection from 3 to 27 February 2026. The service is a residential care home supporting up to 66 people, providing nursing support and personal care to older people, some of whom were living with dementia. We assessed this service due to receiving information of concern. We inspected 33 quality statements. This service had previously been rated requires improvement.

At our previous inspection in January 2024, we found 5 breaches of regulation relating to safe care and treatment, consent, staffing, governance and notification of incidents. Although we found some improvements had been made at this inspection, we found 2 breaches of the legal regulations in relation to fit and proper staff, and a continued breach in governance.

People’s health conditions and associated risks were assessed, however, were not always recorded accurately. but not always managed safely. People’s capacity was not always assessed. Staff were not recruited safely. The provider’s governance systems failed to identify some of the concerns we found during this inspection and to address all the concerns found at the previous inspection.

People were supported to have choice and control in some areas, could give feedback on their care, and were supported by staff who knew them well and treated them with kindness and respect.

Staff were trained to raise and respond to safeguarding concerns both internally and to external agencies. Staff responded quickly to meet people’s needs and ensured people’s care and support met individual needs and preferences.

The service learned from incidents and action was taken to ensure improvements were made where needed. There was a system in place for responding to concerns or complaints.

A registered manager was in post, and they had started taking action prior to and during our inspection to make improvements.

People's experience of the service

Updated 21 January 2026

We spoke with some people and relatives and used observation to assess whether people received good care. People told us staff knew them well and understood how they liked to be supported. They told us they had control over how they wished to spend their time and were supported to be independent. They told us they enjoyed the variety of social activities and events on offer and there were enough staff on duty to meet their needs. One person told us, “They are very kind and look after me well. I feel totally safe at night-time too, at weekends it really isn't any different.” Another person told us, “There is this 1 carer who comes and she brings board games, clears everything off my table, sets up Ludo or snakes and ladders and plays them with me, that is really nice.” One relative told us, “My relative is 100 percent safe, because at any point the carers will keep an eye on them. They are in constant contact with us even if it is not a major concern. They let us know how our relative has been. They look comfortable, they are not worried and neither am I. Staff are always professional and provide care when needed.” Another relative told us, “There are enough staff, they are very friendly to my relative and us. Staff are well trained, caring and alert. If our relative says they feel poorly, staff are on it straight away.” We observed the home was a welcoming environment, staff knew people well, anticipated their needs and when people became anxious, staff were patient and took time to listen to people and help them.
