Equity in experiences and outcomes
Staff and leaders actively listened to information about people who were most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes and tailored their care, support and treatment in response to this. The provider ensured there were no barriers at the service that would prevent people from accessing all areas or facilities in the local community and at the service.
People told us they were supported to attend all appointments. We saw staff work with people to access digital information from the hospital and understand what it meant. Relatives told us their family members were always supported to access the hospital or doctor when required. A relative told us, “Staff have succeeded where I have failed. My [family member] doesn’t like stairs and at first was upstairs but they do not like the stair lift either. Staff agreed with them to move to a downstairs bedroom. As soon as they were downstairs staff got my [family member] to sleep in a bed rather than on the sofa and they are now asking to be showered and washed all the time which is new. They like it here.” Another relative said, “My [family member] has a good friend and they chat every day and go through the newspapers and play dominoes each morning. They said staff take them out to the sea, to the shops, for lunch and other places they wish to go to.”
