Our view of the service
Spire Healthcare Limited operates Spire Little Aston Hospital. The hospital has a 27 bedded surgical ward, an eight bedded day case unit and a chemotherapy suite with four chairs and two private rooms. The services are available to insured and self-funding people. The hospital also provides treatment for adult NHS patients; there are three advanced theatres equipped with laminar flow systems and a minor operations theatre including endoscopy services, outpatient facilities (Monday- Saturday), and full on‑site diagnostics (magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) , computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, X‑ray, fluoroscopy, mammography) in addition to a xray department. The site hosts several specialist services including a Mako robotic orthopaedic centre, BSGE‑accredited endometriosis centre, Spire Eye Centre, and on‑site rehabilitation services. The hospital provides surgery, outpatient services and limited diagnostic tests for children and young people.
The hospital registered manager has been in post since 2020 but was working in another interim role at the time of our assessment.
The service is registered to provide the following regulated activities:
- Treatment of Disease, Disorder or Injury.
- Diagnostic Imaging Services.
- Surgical procedures.
- Family planning
- Services in slimming clinics
The last published inspection report included surgery, medicine and outpatients in 2019 and rated the services and the hospital as good. We inspected Surgery and out patients in May and June 2026, this report has not yet been published. We inspected the service as it had not been inspected since 2019 and as such had an aged rating We inspected this service using our comprehensive assessment methodology.
The hospital did see a small number of children in the outpatients and diagnostic departments. Children aged between 16 and 18 can have surgery at Spire Little Aston Hospital but only if they were assessed to have the capacity to understand and provide informed consent to the surgery.
