Our view of the service

The date of assessment: we carried out a planned assessment of the service on 16 and 17 June 2026 because the previous ratings required review.

Surgical services consisted of adult elective surgery, including orthopaedic, gynaecology, ophthalmic and general surgery. Surgical services were provided to both insured and self-pay private patients and to NHS patients through local Integrated Care Systems. There were 17 inpatient bedrooms on the wards. Each single room had ensuite facilities with either a bath or shower. The location had 2 operating theatres and 9 consulting rooms.

The hospital did not treat people aged under 18. However, staff received training on child protection for the rare occasions that patients brought children into the service.

People received safe and effective care. Staff managed risks appropriately and leaders promoted a culture of learning and improvement. The service was well-led, with a good culture of continuous improvement and person-centred care.

There were 3 previous breaches of regulation identified during our last assessment of Surgery at the hospital.

However, these breaches have now been met and there were no breaches of regulation identified during this assessment.

People's experience of this service

We spoke to 3 patients in the service. Patients were positive about the staff treating them with warmth and kindness, and of being provided with effective care and treatment. Patients confirmed their pain was managed well, and they were supported to move around as much as possible after their surgical operation. Patients said the call bells were always answered quickly, and they all felt they could get assistance if needed. Patients said staff gave them enough time to ask questions about their procedure and checked they understood the treatment they were receiving.
