Our view of the service
We carried out an onsite assessment on 15 April to 16 April 2026. This was a comprehensive assessment due to aged rating. We looked at 33 quality statements across the key questions of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.
Rivers Hospital is operated by Ramsay Health Care UK. It provides surgery for both privately funded and National Health Service (NHS) patients. The hospital has 5 operating theatres, a recovery area and ward areas. It had 59 inpatient beds across 2 wards. Orchard Ward, which specialises in caring for patients requiring orthopaedic surgery, General Surgery and some medical patients and Meadow Ward which provides care for patients requiring ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgery, gynaecology, urology, cosmetic surgery, ophthalmology, oral and maxillofacial surgery and chemotherapy. No intensive care facilities are provided at this location.
During our assessment we spoke with passionate and caring staff and leaders. There was a shared vision to deliver good care across all areas of surgery. There was a focus on patient experience and outcomes, supporting patients to make well informed decisions about their care.
Equality, diversity and inclusion were supported throughout the service with training and guidance to prevent health inequalities.
The service had effective risk monitoring systems that were supported by clear governance and accountability structures.
Leaders were skilled and experienced. The quality and performance of the service was monitored and benchmarked against national services.
People's experience of this service
Patients using the service provided positive feedback. They were well informed about the surgery pathway, involved in discussions and decisions about care. Information was shared in accessible formats, and they had access to give feedback on their care both direct to the service and external agencies.
Patients told us all staff were welcoming and friendly. They were treated with kindness and compassion throughout their care journey and were able to raise any concerns and ask questions. Both pre- and post-surgery, patients told us they felt safe and supported by all levels of staff.
Patients were given tailored aftercare depending on their needs and friends and family were kept informed of surgery progress and outcomes to relieve any anxiety or worry.
Friends and family test survey results for July to December 2025 showed 99% of patients were satisfied with the care they had received at the Rivers Hospital.
