Staff members we spoke with understood the importance of involving people in making decisions. A staff member responsible for activities told us, "We have regular meetings; we discuss what we can introduce or whether they want things taken out they are very vocal, and we try new things together”.

People’s care plan reflected their preferences and wishes and were reviewed regularly to ensure people remained happy with the care they were receiving. Regular meetings were held with people and their relatives to ensure they were involved with all aspects of the service.

We saw people receiving good care from kind, respectful and compassionate staff. People were undertaking and enjoying activities of their own choosing. We saw people tapping their feet enjoying their music playing. Other people were chatting about the activity they had chosen that day. One staff member told us, "I do think the residents are getting good care. I would not hesitate to recommend this home to anyone. We are doing a Pantomime next month, all staff are involved, doing Grease." Peoples wellbeing was being nurtured.

People were given choices throughout the day. Staff asked people what they wanted to eat, drink and do. Staff had a good understanding of how to support people to make day-to-day decisions. A person told us, “I do as much as I can for myself. Staff are very nice and caring.” I like to be independent; I like to walk around my room. I do get a choice here.” A relative said, “Staff support [person] with their independence all the time. They really support people and there are several carers [person] is fond of, they always greet [person]. Staff do know them well. [Family member] is very independent, they would not let staff not let them be independent.” People were very positive about the range of activities available to them at the service and relatives told us they could visit the home whenever they wanted. A person told us, “We have a lot going on. There is a lot to do.” A relative said, “There is local entertainment and animal petting – they will bring the entertainment to [family member] in their room as they can’t get to communal areas, they don’t leave [family member] isolated and they do not miss out.” Another relative said, “I can go there whenever I want, the care home sees it as it’s my [family members] house and they can have visitors at any time. They have a summerhouse that can be booked for family visits as well.”
