Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 6 -13 October 2025. We carried out an unannounced site visit to the service on 13 October 2025.
The last rating of this service was good (published 27 August 2022). This assessment was conducted due to the length of time since the service was last assessed. The rating remains good after this assessment.
Clare House Care Home is a care home with nursing for up to 40 older people. At the time of our assessment, 35 people were living at the service.
The provider had systems to help safeguard people from the risk of abuse. They investigated and learnt from allegations of abuse, complaints, accidents and incidents. Staff assessed and planned for risks to people’s safety and wellbeing. People lived in a safe, clean and well-maintained environment. Staff ensured people received their medicines safely and as prescribed. There were enough suitably trained staff to care for people and keep them safe.
Staff assessed people’s needs and choices. They created care plans to ensure people received personalised care. Staff monitored people’s wellbeing and outcomes. Staff worked well together and with other professionals to meet people’s needs. People consented to their care and treatment. Their choices were respected.
Staff were kind and caring. People formed good relationships with staff and each other. People were treated as individuals. Staff were attentive and responded to people’s needs. People were supported to retain their independence whenever possible, and this is what they wanted.
People’s diverse needs were met. People were able to access the services they needed. Staff provided information in formats people could understand. The provider listened to people and involved them in decisions about their care and the running of the home.
There was an inclusive and open culture at the service. Managers were experienced and qualified. The provider had suitable policies and procedures which reflected good practice and legislation. Staff and managers conducted regular audits of the service. Improvements were made when concerns were identified.
People's experience of this service
People and their relatives told us they had a good experience living at the home and receiving care. People felt safe and well supported. People liked the environment and personalised their own bedrooms. People and their relatives told us they liked the staff. They knew them well. People felt staff respected them. A person explained, “The staff here are all lovely.”
People told us they were consulted and involved in making decisions. Relatives told us they were welcome and kept updated about people’s wellbeing. A relative explained, “I am involved in providing care when [person] wants. The staff respect this.”
People and relatives felt the service was well managed. They found managers approachable. They said managers listed to their feedback and responded to complaints.
People told us there was a friendly and inclusive atmosphere. A person explained, “It really feels like a family here.”
