Date of assessment: 19 and 20 February January 2025. The assessment was carried out to follow up on previous breaches and to review information of concern recently received.
Mount Tryon is a ‘care home’ that provides accommodation for a maximum of 59 people. On the first day of the inspection, 44 older people, some of which are living with dementia, were living at the service.
The provider was previously in breach of the regulations in relation to the management of risks and the governance of the service. Improvements were found at this assessment and the provider was no longer in breach of these regulations.
Staffing levels were safe and there were sufficient numbers of appropriately skilled staff employed to meet people’s assessed needs. People were protected from abuse and risks had been identified and mitigated. Care records showed risks to skin integrity and to people’s wellbeing were well manged.
People received their medications as prescribed and medicines were stored and when necessary, disposed of safely.
Managers and staff understood the requirements of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and the associated Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS). People were supported to make decisions where possible and, where necessary, decisions had been made in people’s best interests with appropriate input from relatives.
People’s dignity was respected and staff provided support at a relaxed pace with kindness and compassion. A range of activities were available, and staff had time to engage with people positively while providing assistance.
The registered manger was now supported by a deputy manager and staff were complimentary of the service’s leaders and the support they provided.
Quality assurance systems were now effective and had ensured compliance with the regulations. The registered manager and staff team were well supported by the provider.
