Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 30 October to 11 November 2025. The service is a residential care home providing support to older people, and people living with dementia. At the time of this inspection, 17 people were being supported.

The provider was previously in breach of legal regulations regarding good governance. Improvements were found at this assessment, and the provider was no longer in breach of this regulation. However, we found further improvement was required with record keeping, the comprehensiveness of some people's care plans and risk assessments, and with the provider's governance processes.

People were protected and kept safe. Staff understood and managed risks; people’s risk information was updated during this inspection. The facilities and equipment met people’s needs, were clean and well-maintained. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications, and experience to meet people’s needs. Staff received training and supervisions, and refresher training was planned and scheduled. Staff did not always manage people’s medicines safely and involved people in planning any changes.

People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice. Staff carried out risk assessments and reviewed these. However, some risk assessments were missing, and these were reviewed by the registered manager and put into place during this inspection.

People received kind and compassionate care. Staff protected and respected people’s privacy and dignity and understood and responded to their individual needs. People’s physical, mental, and social needs were holistically assessed and met. Care and treatment were coordinated with involvement from other relevant organisations.

There was an open and transparent culture within the management team with a clear focus on providing safe care. People and those important to them were involved in planning their care, where possible. The provider had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns.

Staff described a positive and open culture where they felt supported and able to raise concerns or suggestions. Concerns and complaints were managed appropriately, however, there was limited information on how the registered manager analysed trends and shared learning across the team to improve service delivery.

People's experience of this service

We received positive feedback from people and their relatives regarding the quality of care provided. People told us they felt safe living at Hyde Lea and relatives confirmed this.

People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected people’s privacy and dignity and treated people as individuals and supported their preferences. People had choice in their care and were encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends.

Staff responded to people in a timely way. A person told us, “[Staff names] all are approachable, and they will listen if you have any worries; they sort it right away.” Relatives were complimentary of the service and the care and support provided; they told us the service had made a difference to the quality of life of their loved ones and spoke positively of the staff, who were described as providing diligent care.

People and relatives were involved in decisions about their care. Staff provided information people could understand. A relative told us, “The staff are fantastic; [person] feels safe and gets on with the staff. The social worker helped me find the place, and as soon as I went there to have a look round, I knew it was right. It’s clean and safe.”

People knew how to give feedback and were confident the provider took it seriously and acted on it. A relative told us, “The staff treat us like family and if I have any worries I can talk to any of them, they are all very approachable.” The provider worked to eliminate discrimination and people received fair and equal care and treatment. Staff worked to reduce health and care inequalities through training and feedback.

Where possible, people were involved in planning their care and a relative told us, “Because of the bad experience [person] had at another care home, they had lost all trust in carers. It wasn't easy for them [staff]; they have been exceptional and have managed to gain the trust. To be honest they [staff] have been a Godsend, and they now even manage to engage [person] with the activities. They are so clued-up on how to manage these situations, they have the right manner and experience.”
