Our view of the service
Eachstep Lockwood is a care home providing personal care for up to 42 people. At the time of our assessment there were 2 people living at the service. The service, previously known as Norman Hudson Care Home, stopped providing care to people in August 2023 and re-opened in April 2025.
The assessment commenced on 16 April 2025 and was completed on 8 May 2025. This included 2 visits to the service on 16 and 24 April 2025. During the inspection we spoke with both people living at the service and a friend of each person. We also spoke with 6 members of staff including the maintenance person, care staff, manager and area manager. We reviewed 22 quality statements. The overall rating at this assessment is requires improvement.
Some improvements were needed in relation to environmental safety, infection prevention and control and in making sure safeguarding issues were reported in a timely way. Medicines were safely managed. People had access to health professionals when required. There were enough staff to meet people’s needs. Care was person centred, and people were supported to make decisions about their lifestyles and increase their independence.
People were supported by kind and caring staff who saw people as individuals and knew them well.
The provider’s governance systems had not been sufficiently robust to make sure the environment was fully safe and comfortable for people moving into the service. However, this was being addressed.
The service was last inspected in March 2023 and was rated requires improvement.
This service has been in Special Measures since 3 September 2022. The provider demonstrated improvements that have been made. The service is no longer rated as inadequate in any of the key questions. Therefore, this service is no longer in Special Measures.
