Effective – this means we looked for evidence that people’s care, treatment and support achieved good outcomes and promoted a good quality of life, based on best available evidence. At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment the rating has remained good. This meant people’s outcomes were consistently good, and people’s feedback confirmed this.

Assessing needs

The provider made sure people’s care and treatment was effective by assessing and reviewing their health, care, wellbeing and communication needs with them. People’s needs were assessed before they started using the service, and the information was used to inform care plans. People and relatives gave positive feedback about their experience of moving into the home. Comments included, “The admission was smooth.” and “We reviewed the care plan with [registered manager] and they're quite proactive and discussed [Name] with [health professional]", “When [Name] moved in, they updated us all the time and they give us a ring straight away, if it’s important, I could talk to [the registered manager] because we see her walking around quite a lot when we visit”.

The provider told people about their rights around consent and respected these when delivering person-centred care and treatment. Processes where in place to assess people’s mental capacity. We received positive feedback from people and relatives about the support people received from staff. People were routinely offered choice and control over how they wanted to spend their day. Comments included, “They do ask about things”, “[Name] looks well and [Name’s] hair is done but [Name] doesn’t want it cutting. They leave it as she likes it”.
