Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.
This is the first assessment for this service. This key question has been rated good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Kindness, compassion and dignity
The service always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.
Staff told us they showed respect to people by, “Offering choice and listening to their wishes. I protect their dignity during personal care and make sure they feel respected as do all my colleagues.” Another staff member said, “I always respect clients dignity and always promote independence where possible and give them choices.” A healthcare professional told us, “They seem to have that personable touch with their patients. They are kind, caring. It is clear that they respect their dignity and treat them with compassion, which is very nice to see.”
Overall feedback from relatives was consistently positive, with comments such as, “I have been sent a blessing with these carers.” And, “They are wonderful.” And “The carers have a very friendly, caring personality.” And, “I have witnessed first-hand the care and compassion they have towards the people they look after.” And, “They are very understanding, very empathetic, very generous and really genuine people.” And, “They exceed our expectations.” And, “We’ve used the service for three months and they never faltered.”
Comments from relatives included, “The service gives the best care possible with a very high standard.” And, “I am delighted with their nurturing approach.” And, “Each one of you is a beacon of light and excellence.” And, “Ashbee's staff are all efficient, kind and professional. They are completely reliable and have never let us down.”
Another healthcare professional told us, “I have only ever observed kindness and compassion. They treat their clients like extended family, and it is a relief at times to know clients are being well cared for.” Another said, “What truly sets [registered manager and co provider] apart is how much they genuinely care. They don't just deliver care, they provide love, warmth, emotional reassurance, and companionship.”
Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect. Comments made from healthcare professionals included, “It’s a nice family run company with managers and staff work with us together they work wonders.” Another told us, “It’s a family run business and has a family feel to it when I have carried out a joint assessment. They [registered manager and co-provider] are both professional in what they do and always listen to the clients wants and needs.”
Treating people as individuals
The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics.
The provider had an Equality and Diversity policy in place. The policy detailed the providers commitment to uphold legislation and best practice to ensure people and staff were treated fairly. Staff told us they were treated equally and fairly. Comments made by staff included, “The management team are extremely approachable and very supportive, they care a lot about the clients and value their staff.”
People received consistent timely care from familiar staff who understand their needs and got along with them. People were kept informed about any changes to their support.
Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. Care plans detailed how people and staff could promote this. For example, encouraging people to do as much for themselves as possible and by offering choices. Care plans were reviewed regularly with the person involved to ensure information reflected what the person wanted.
A relative explained their loved one, “Received a high level of care and dignity and independence was encouraged.” Another relative said, “They support her 3 times a day and support her daily living and enable her to be independent.” Staff told us, “I think we all care for the clients well with their individual needs which is important.”
A healthcare professional told us, “It is nice to see them being given choice and their individual wishes respected.” Another healthcare professional told us, “They are keen to help people maintain their independence and try to ensure their clients do as much as they can for themselves rather than do everything for them. This is quite rare with a care agency from my experience."
Responding to people’s immediate needs
The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff, and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care.
All staff completed a comprehensive induction, and did not work unsupervised until they and their manager were confident they could do so safely. Staff said their induction and shadow shifts were, “Very supportive and thorough until I was confident and capable.” A person said, “They job shadow a number of times until they know the work inside out.”
Supervision and appraisal were used to develop and motivate staff, review their practice or behaviours, and to focus on professional development. One staff member told us, “I have had appraisals and I receive regular support and regular spot checks. The support I get is fantastic, the team are brilliant.”
Staff were very positive about their experiences working for Ashbee Home Care Ltd. Staff commented, “The whole team are so happy and we work well together. It is a joyful environment where everyone feels equal and valued. I love my job and being part of a team where we can actually make a difference.” And, “They are always on the end of the phone and will come to help me with anything I need. The management team care about the people we look after and about the team. They are very kind, hard working and professional. I am lucky to work for an amazing company with great manager, staff and clients.” And, “I feel the clients and I are valued. I feel appreciated by not only the clients but from [registered manager and co provider]. I enjoy my job and the company I work for.” And, “We speak to the managers every day on shift, and support is always there if needed. We can contact them easily if we need to raise any issues, they're always on the end of the phone.”
Comments from staff included, “Working with Ashbee Home Care for a couple of years has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The company's commitment to compassionate, personalized care for the elderly is unmatched.” Staff described, “Loving their job,” And said, “This is the best job I’ve ever had in care.”
Staff told us they felt supported in their role. The provider had structures and policies in place to support workforce wellbeing and enablement. A healthcare professional told us Ashby Home Care, “Have a strong set of values, and it is clear to see that these filter down to their staff. Their patients are well looked after, and their staff speak very positively.”
